SGBM Workshop „About Translational Research: Inventions, Innovations and Spin-Offs“

This introductory workshop will shed light on a buzzword found in many scientific grants of the last decade: “translational research”. Based on real world experiences we will reveal and discuss some of the fundamental DOs and DON'Ts for academic inventions to be successfully transferred towards marketable products or technologies and inventor driven spin-offs.

Topics covered include:

  • Basic patent filing guidelines for inventors at universities
    • Legal obligations, costs & strategies
    • Patent vs publication: respective needs & timelines
  • Market-driven evaluation, unmet needs & unique selling positions
    • Translational research: from initial evidence to solid Proof of Concepts (PoC)
    • Attract PoC funding (public a/o private)
  • Commercialization
    • Business modelling & planning
    • Trade sales, options & licenses
  • Start-up support
    • Financing options: preparatory a/o seeding
    • Founding office: activities & local network

    The entire Workshop will be held in English language.
