Two women, one vision: With their event series \u201cBridge the gap \u2013 Focus on female founders<\/em><\/a>,\" our employees Liliane Herzberg and Katharina Engel are creating a space where women can become visible, network, and learn from each other. Today, we talk to them about their motivation, challenges, and why such formats are needed right now. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Start-up Office (SO):<\/strong>
How did the idea for a series of events like this come about? Bridge the gap<\/em><\/strong> <\/em>speziell f\u00fcr Gr\u00fcnderinnen* zu starten?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liliane:<\/strong>
The idea actually arose from an observation, or rather a discrepancy. Statistics from across Germany, as well as those from the start-up office, show that only a fraction of start-ups are female-led. However, from our private circles and conversations, we know that this is not due to a lack of motivation among women* or a lack of ideas. So we set out to find the causes of this discrepancy and discovered that various factors prevent female founders from getting started. These include structural and personal issues, questions of compatibility, but also role models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katharina<\/strong>: Yes, we noticed, for example, that although there are many business events, there are rarely any like Bridge the Gap, where women really take center stage, not as token speakers, but as experts, doers, and founders. We missed having this safe, open space where you don't have to pretend to be someone else and where there's room for uncertainty. That's how the idea came about: Why not start something ourselves?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SO:<\/strong>
What is the goal of your series\u2014what specific changes or opportunities do you want to create for female founders?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katharina:<\/strong>
We want to create visibility, but also genuine connections that go beyond exchanging business cards. Our goal is to empower women* in the start-up world through role models, exchange, inspiring stories, and practical knowledge. Our vision is to create a space where female founders* can meet on equal terms and help each other grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bridge the gap \u2013 what participants can expect<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

GB:<\/strong>
What does a typical evening at Bridge the gap<\/em> look like? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liliane:<\/strong>
Each evening has a specific theme, ranging from financing to self-doubt to leadership. We place great emphasis on interactivity. No lectures, just real conversations. And, of course, there is also room for networking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SO:<\/strong>
Who specifically is your offer aimed at? Do founders need to have more than just an idea?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katharina:<\/strong>
Anyone interested in founding a company, self-employment, or startups is welcome to join. Many participants are just starting out or still developing their ideas, while others are already in the midst of everyday business life. This mix at Bridge the gap<\/em> is extremely valuable because we learn so much from each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SO:<\/strong>
Why do you think women* need their own spaces in the start-up world?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liliane:<\/strong>
Because women* face different challenges, whether in terms of financing, visibility, or leadership. In mixed spaces, many issues get lost, perhaps because women* don't dare to ask their questions, or perhaps because they don't consider them important when others are louder and more demanding than they are. Our Bridge the Gap events offer a safe space where doubts, fears, and structural barriers can be discussed honestly. And women empower each other, which is incredibly powerful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Networking also plays a major role in Bridge the gap<\/em>.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

SO:<\/strong>
Wie wichtig ist euch das Thema Vernetzung unter Gr\u00fcnderinnen* und wie unterst\u00fctzt ihr das konkret?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katharina:<\/strong>
Networking is extremely important. Women* often don't dare to take the first step. That's why we're dedicating an entire workshop to this topic at the FRENI Entrepreneurship Days<\/a>. We also design all our events in such a way that exchange usually happens quite naturally. We believe that every woman* in the room has something to contribute, regardless of her business status. Real alliances can emerge from a network, and that's exactly what we promote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

GB:<\/strong>
What are your next steps? How will the Bridge the gap<\/em> series develop further?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Katharina:<\/strong>
We want to grow, both in terms of quality and perhaps also geographically. We already have ideas for reaching even more women. At the same time, we want to preserve the personal atmosphere. We are not interested in mass appeal, but in making a real impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SO:<\/strong>
What advice would you personally give to women* who are considering starting a business but don't yet have the courage to do so?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liliane:<\/strong>
Dare to get started and seek support. You don't have to be able to do or know everything on your own. Talk to people who are well-disposed and curious about your idea, even if it's still in its infancy. Get feedback, network, go to events like ours \ud83d\ude09and above all: trust yourself. You are full of feminine power, use it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
