The fifth edition of the KTUR – Knowledge Transfer Upper Rhine Summer School on Entrepreneurship once again brought together around 40 students and PhD candidates from across the Upper Rhine region and beyond. Out of more than 140 applications, participants were selected – clear proof of the strong demand for this unique program.
A strong start in Freiburg
The journey began at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, where seven project teams were formed. From the very first day, the atmosphere was open, dynamic, and inspiring, with ideas, backgrounds, and nationalities blending seamlessly. A range of guest speakers from Freiburg’s startup ecosystem provided valuable insights into entrepreneurial journeys, business models, and marketing strategies – including Manuela Schön (Heartgate), Sven Küspert (Nero Materials), Dr. Andre Grossé (CYTENA), and Melanie Kovacs (Joypreneurs).
Basel: Learning and experiencing
The second stop took the group to Basel, hosted by the Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz FHNW. Alongside workshops and inputs, the focus was also on shared experiences: a dinner at the dark-room restaurant Blinde Kuh turned into an unforgettable highlight, combining challenge, laughter, and team spirit. The program was enriched by cultural discoveries too – from city tours of historic sites to spontaneous late-night walks and pub evenings.
Grand finale in Strasbourg
The final stage took place at the Université de Strasbourg, where the seven project teams pitched their startup ideas. From an AI-powered language learning platform to a micro robot for cancer treatment and new transport solutions for wind turbines, the range of concepts was both ambitious and inspiring.
The jury recognized two standout achievements:
- Best Project: TT-Stats
- Best Team: AL-G
Yet in truth, all teams were winners – their creativity, expertise, and entrepreneurial spirit impressed the audience and jury alike.
More than just a program
Once again, the KTUR Summer School proved to be much more than an entrepreneurship training. It is a space for connection, networking, and unforgettable shared memories. Across borders and disciplines, participants built friendships and professional ties that will last long beyond the program itself.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all participants, speakers, jury members, and partners who made this year’s Summer School a success.
