The Start-up Office at the University of Freiburg helps you get started!
Do you have a business idea, or did your research produce an innovative business case? Have you finished your studies and are you interested in topics such as new work, entrepreneurship, and self-employment? Then starting your own business is an option for you—and the Start-up Office at the University of Freiburg is the right place for you!
We offer advice and support on many questions relating to starting a business. In addition to individual advice from our experienced consulting team, including on possible funding programs, we offer various event formats to help you advance your own business idea:
The University of Freiburg's Start-up Office organizes start-up BBQs, talks, and networking events. We also hold two annual lecture series in cooperation with the ZfS: “Gründen – aber richtig! Ringvorlesung Entrepreneurship” and the “Businessplan-Seminar”. The basic topics of the lecture series are open to external participants – we look forward to seeing you there!
You also have the opportunity to complete an individual practical module: “Business Development: From Idea to Start-up.”

KTUR² Startup Job Fair
Initiatives of the Start-up Office at the University of Freiburg
Your idea. Your path. Your business. FRENI – Freiburg Entrepreneurship Institut – was founded in 2025 to support the work of the University of Freiburg's start-up office and to supplement it with further measures. It promotes entrepreneurial personalities in the South Baden region – across all industries and disciplines.
The aim of Knowledge Transfer Upper Rhine (KTUR²) is to intensify, structure, and professionalize cooperation between transfer actors at the respective universities and colleges, as well as between colleges, intermediaries, and companies in the trinational Upper Rhine region.
The University of Freiburg is part of the „INSPIRE BW Hubs“ project funded by the state ministry of science. Under the current title „Schwarzwälder Gründergeist“,the University of Freiburg's start-up office serves as a regional hub for start-up activities—together with the universities of Offenburg and Furtwangen.
Where can you find space for your ideas, where can you get the necessary funding, and who can support you? Startinsland has answers to almost all questions relating to the start-up scene in Freiburg.
With their „Startup|Energy“ initiative, the University of Freiburg and the Solar Energy Foundation in Freiburg aim to promote regional and international exchange between startups working in the field of decentralized renewable energy supply in Germany or East Africa.
