Various initiatives have been established for different target groups: While KTUR (Knowledge Transfer Upper Rhine) is aimed at the trinational Upper Rhine region and strengthens the networking of players in the start-up ecosystem, Schwarzwälder Gründergeist (Black Forest Entrepreneurial Spirit) is a regional hub for start-up activities – together with the universities of Offenburg and Furtwangen. The Startinsland start-up initiative is aimed at anyone in the Freiburg region who is interested in starting a business. Startup|Energy is the point of contact for energy start-ups from Germany and Africa.
The aim of Knowledge Transfer Upper Rhine (KTUR²) is to intensify, structure, and professionalize cooperation between transfer actors at the respective universities and colleges, as well as between colleges, intermediaries, and companies in the trinational Upper Rhine region.
The University of Freiburg is part of the “INSPIRE BW Hubs” project funded by the state ministry of science. Under the current title “Schwarzwälder Gründergeist” , the University of Freiburg's start-up office is establishing a regional hub for start-up activities – together with the universities of Offenburg and Furtwangen.

With their „Startup|Energy“ initiative, the University of Freiburg and the Solar Energy Foundation in Freiburg aim to promote regional and international exchange between startups working in the field of decentralized renewable energy supply in Germany or East Africa.
